The Neutral Mask

Before moving to any form or style of play, we need to go through the root, the base.
The theatrical neutral (unlike the diplomatic one) is demanding alertness to one's body and to the space.
It is a genuine state of openness, like a white new page, available to discovery, however a state without a past or a future, without opinion.

The powerful support of the Neutral Mask work:
  • helps the actor identify and strip away habitual idiosyncratic physical tendencies, parasites and habits
  • guides him to a presence state of calmness
  • allows him to encounter this "starting point" state from which all possibilities are open
  • explores the physical identification to the environment, bringing substance to the performer's body and finding the right physical tension and play, obeying the rules of movement
The Neutral Mask is an essential journey to all performers, a foundation from which all characters and theatre forms evolve. This experience will allow them, later, to have more clarity while making their own artistic choices in characters, play and devising.
